Private Foundation Scholarships for International Students Enrolled in School

Introducing external scholarships that can be applied for after enrollment. These are mainly for international students with "Student" residency status, but some foundations may also accept students with other residency statuses.

After enrolling at Institute of Science Tokyo, international students may apply for scholarships from private foundations. These fall into two categories:
(1) Scholarship Opportunities Requiring a University Recommendation and (2) Scholarship Opportunities without a University Recommendation.
As the application procedures differ for each, please review the details below before applying.

Scholarship Opportunities Requiring a University Recommendation

  • If you want to apply for scholarships requiring university recommendation, you will have to register first.
  • The student support division will select a candidate from all registered student.
  • Please register via the following websites according to your affiliation.

Scholarship Opportunities without a University Recommendation

  • Anyone who meets the application requirements stipulated by the private scholarship foundation can apply for these scholarships. Please check the websites of the respective foundations for details.
  • When the Student Support Division receives scholarship application information from scholarship foundations, it announce the information on the website of Science Tokyo for current students(External site) and the information should be checked by yourself.
  • Overview of each private scholarship which offered at Science Tokyo, please refer to the "List of the Private Scholarship Foundations (Direct Application)" .
  • Depending on the foundation, applications may need to be processed through the university.
    Internal deadlines may also apply. Please be sure to check these details before applying.
Important Notice
Some scholarships without university recommendation may require the seal of the university president or dean.
This takes approximately one week.
Please contact the Student Support Division Financial Aid Group well in advance to inquire about the necessary procedures.
The group is not responsible if requests are made at the last minute and the seal cannot be issued by the deadline.
