May 20, 2025

Yuki Nakao, a fifth-year medical student at the School of Medicine, Science Tokyo, and Yutaro Mori, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Nephrology, were honored with the Outstanding Presentation Award and the Outstanding Mentor Award, respectively, at the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine's “Koto Hajime” for Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows 2025 Osaka. The event was held on April 19 as part of the 122nd Annual Meeting and Lecture Series of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine.

The “Koto Hajime” event serves as a platform for medical students, residents, and specialists aspiring to careers in internal medicine to present significant clinical cases and research encountered at the bedside. It also provides opportunities for participants to engage in discussions with supervising physicians, fostering an early interest in internal medicine while developing their skills as future internists. Despite the competitive environment, where medical students comprised only about 10% of participants, Nakao, with the dedicated guidance of his mentor, Dr. Yutaro Mori, achieved remarkable success in securing these prestigious awards. This is the second time that Nakao and Dr. Mori have received the same award, the first being last year.
