5. [Science and Engineering] Important Note on Avoiding Plagiarism in Academic Writing
Needless to say, your reports and dissertation
must be written with your original study and your own analysis.
The process of producing such written work cannot be about "searching and copying" source materials.
Students are expected to conduct their original study and offer their own analysis (or verify the findings of someone else's study).
If students fail to follow these rules and choose to use other people's work in an inappropriate way, such an act may be considered plagiarism-in other words, stealing.
Make sure to check with the utmost care, both during and after the completion of writing, that your work correctly cites and credits source materials.
Science Tokyo has installed plagiarism detection software. Doctorate theses will be checked for misappropriation with the aid of this software upon submission by the students' supervisors.
