2024 Fall Entrance Ceremony
Science Tokyo welcomes inaugural cohort of students
Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo) held the 2024 Fall Entrance Ceremony — its inaugural welcoming of new students — on October 23. Joining the students on Ookayama Campus were the Institute’s members of the board, deans and directors, special guests, and numerous family members of the students.
This fall, 489 students — 3 bachelor's program students, 285 master's program students, 8 professional master's program students, and 193 doctoral program students — were admitted to the Institute. A total of 306 students joined Science Tokyo from abroad.
The fall ceremony, held approximately three weeks after the founding of Science Tokyo, began with a greeting by President and Chief Academic Officer (CAO) Yujiro Tanaka. After highlighting the Institute’s mission of “advancing science and human wellbeing to create value for and with society,” Tanaka emphasized Science Tokyo’s role in broader society, stating that “to realize a better future we must work side by side with the public, supporting them as they support us.”
Next, Science Tokyo’s President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naoto Ohtake offered his congratulations to the Institute’s inaugural students. “Let us join forces so we can expand and develop academic fields based on our shared understanding of people, society, and nature, and create new value together,” he said.
After the introduction of other members of the board, deans and directors, and special guests, student representative and doctoral student Satoru Tanabe from the Department of Chemistry spoke on behalf of the new students. He declared that the 2024 cohort — the Institute’s inaugural students — would pursue their individual goals with dedication and passion, while committing themselves to academic research that aligns with the goals of each School and Graduate School, and ultimately advances science and human wellbeing to create value for and with society.
Congratulations to all the new students of the Institute, and welcome to the Science Tokyo community.
