4.【Science and Engineering】 Disaster Drill: Wednesday, November 6, 2024
A broadcast will be delivered on 12:25 signifying the commencement of the disaster drill.
Students (including research students) who are on campus at the time of the broadcast are required to participate in the drill.
Students who are then attending class are requested to follow the instructions of the faculty staff and fill in a safety confirmation sheet and insert it into the box located at the evacuation area.
The drill activities, however, will be held on a smaller scale at the wooden deck area of Ookayama campus.

【Academy for Leadership】

(1) ToTAL/Open Programs:

Academy for Leadership (ToTAL) is offering more than 20 kinds of workshops annually for fostering and developing leadership and entrepreneurship mindset and skills. Regardless of whether you are in ToTAL or not, or whether you are an undergraduate or a graduate student, any student can apply to participate in these workshops.
In addition, graduate students can register for ToTAL's courses that consist of a combination of those workshops to acquire credits and GAs.

●Outline: Students will read books on leadership development or insights on future society following a unique book club style called "Active book Dialogue". In these classes, students grasp main idea of the book quickly and discuss ideas with other students intensively. It can be a language training for students who would like to improve Japanese/English skills.

【4-panel comic making workshop - storytelling with a “Beginning, Development, Turn, and Conclusion” structure】
(an event of Science Tokyo SPRING (for Science and Engineering fields))

●Facilitator: M. Iwasawa/Comic Artist
●Outline: Through practical training of the creation of a 4-panel comic, participants will learn the important points in creating an appealing story structure using “Beginning, Development, Turn, and Conclusion” (A Chinese story structuring technique). It is designed to help participants visually express logic, and can be useful when they create presentations materials. And this class will be conducted in a group with students from Yokohama Specialized Training School of Arts.

■TAL.W401-03 Introduction to Leadership C
-Language: English

-Course description: Introduction to Leadership envisions the classroom as a community in which all members can develop their knowledge and skills via engagement with issues and interaction with each other. By the end of the course, students will have critically explored some of the most common theories of leadership, reflected on their concepts and experiences, and begun to articulate what leadership means for them. Students will also learn to develop intercultural competence and effective communication skills throughout the course. This course will be recognized as an Entrepreneurship Course.

■TAL.S406 Introduction to Work Rules I produced by JTUC-RENGO
-Language: Japanese
-Class day/period: Tuesday, Periods 7-8
-Venue: M-156, Ookayama Campus & J2-303 Suzukakedai Campus *
*This course will be given simultaneously on two campuses via a remote lecture system.
-Course description: Every one of us is required to understand the work rules to protect ourselves and our working environment. In this class, in collaboration with The Japanese Trade Union Confederation ("JTUC-RENGO"), students will study the basic work rules prescribed by the Constitution and laws in Japan. This course will be recognized as an Entrepreneurship Course and corresponds to GA0M.

■TAL.C503-02 Multicultural Business Leadership F
*For International students: Please take "Japanese culture 3: Multicultural collaboration" of Japanese Language and Culture Courses.
-Language: Japanese
-Class day/period: Friday, Periods 3-4

-Course description: In this class, we will examine multicultural work situations in which Japanese and former international student employees work together. We will examine what conflicts they face and how they try to resolve them, and how they feel their own significance in the workplace. Japanese and international students will engage in discussions, imagining that they will be in a position to work and live in a multicultural environment in the future, and they will consider issues of multicultural communication and interpersonal relationships together.

Academy of Super Smart Society (WISE-SSS) offers a degree program that integrates master’s and doctoral courses.
The program aims to cultivate “knowledge professionals” who can integrate physical space technologies with cyberspace technologies as well as advanced sciences and technologies, such as quantum science and artificial intelligence.
At the admissions information session, we will explain the program outline, registration requirements, financial support for enrolled students and more.
We will also explain how to join the SSS Matching Workshop.
(Participation in this workshop is one of the requirements for registration to WISE-SSS.)

[1] [Call for participants] Design Thinking for Beginners Workshop (Series of 3 classes)
This workshop is designed to provide participants with a basic understanding and experience of "Design Thinking", a user-centered innovation creation concept, adopted by not only many Silicon Valley startups but also by large Japanese companies. -Course description: This course focuses on entrepreneurship in its broadest sense, including startups, and examines the social frameworks that constitute entrepreneurship from an interdisciplinary perspective. The aim of this course is to deepen students’ interdisciplinary understanding of the social sciences (economics, political science, geopolitics, marketing, management, etc.) as complex systems that form and sustain entrepreneurship.
