Science Tokyo Academic Affairs News (February 2026 issue)
This newsletter is posted on the Science Tokyo website and on Slack around the first week of every month, providing updated information on academic affairs useful for all current Science Tokyo students.
[Student Division]
1. [Science and Engineering] 2025 4th Quarter Make-up Classes and Final Exams Schedule
Period: Wednesday, January 28 and Monday, February 2 to Saturday, February 7
*The spare day for weekly classes is Wednesday, February 4.
- The schedule was updated in January and may be revised when any changes occur. Please make sure to confirm the details of the courses you have registered.
- You must show your student ID card of Science Tokyo when you take the exams. Please receive it at the Student Division immediately if you have not.
- You must not cheat in the exams. If a student is found to be cheating during an exam or other assignment, all exams and other assignments taken that semester will be invalidated, and they will receive a zero or a failing grade for courses taken that semester, according to Article 7 of the Institute's Rules on Student Disciplinary Action, which were amended in October, 2024.

2. [Science and Engineering] Renewal of a student ID card
If your student ID card expires in March, 2026, you should apply for card renewal.
Please check the following URL.
Applying for an IC card and having an IC card reissued
Apply by(Undergraduate student): Thursday, February 5 - Friday, March 6, 2026
Apply by(Graduate student): Friday, March 6, 2026
We will tell you a pick-up date when you apply.
*You may apply after the deadline, but a new student ID card might be ready after the expiration date.
3. [Science and Engineering] Issuance of Extra Completion Certificate and Academic Transcript (Graduate School students completing in March, 2026)
After the Conferment Ceremony, one copy of a Japanese Completion Certificate and a Japanese Academic Transcript will be issued to every graduated student.
In addition to this, an English version of same documents will be issued to international students.
If you need more than 1 copy of a Certificate/Transcript in Japanese or in English, you are requested to apply in advance through the survey form on the Kyomu Web during the periods below.

4.[Science and Engineering] "Pre-registration" for Humanities and Social Science Courses in 1Q and 2Q 2026 (Mid-March)
Undergraduate students and Master's degree students (*) who are planning to take Humanities and Social Science Courses in 1Q and 2Q 2026 are advised to apply through "Pre-registration" on the Web System for Students and Faculty prior to the Course Registration Period.
There are many courses for which the number of applicants reach full capacity by pre-registration. Be sure to pre-register if you plan to take any Humanities and Social Science courses.
"Pre-registration" will be held in mid-March.
Details will be announced at the end of February or at the beginning of March by email. Please be sure to check emails sent from the university during spring break. (Emails will be sent to "…@m.isct.ac.jp" addresses.)
Regarding Humanities and Social Science Courses of 300-level, pre-registration will not be held in 2026. When you take 300-level course(s), just register it/them in the Course Registration Period.
*For undergraduate and master's degree students of spring (April) 2026 admission, registration instructions will be given at the time of enrollment procedures.

(1) [Online open lecture] "Who You Know Helps You Grow: Networking for Entrepreneurial Scientists"
The Academy for Leadership (ToTAL) is honored to welcome Dr. JuanFra Alvarado Valenzuela, Senior Director and Senior Researcher of the Entrepreneurship Research Group at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, to host an online lecture titled "Who You Know Helps You Grow: Networking for Entrepreneurial Scientists". Dr. Valenzuela is an advisor to entrepreneurial students and a consultant to entrepreneurship programs in higher education.
This session explores how social connections shape entrepreneurial journeys.

(2) Entrepreneurship Courses/Workshops offered by ToTAL
Regardless of whether you are an undergraduate or a graduate student, any student* may take entrepreneurship courses that consist of a combination of various workshops to earn credits, or apply to join a single workshop. Take our courses or workshops if you are interested!
*Course registration is not available to students in the medical & dental fields, but those students are also welcome to participate in individual workshops. (Credits and points will not be granted in that case.)

-Outline: The Lean Launchpad Program (LLP) will be offered in 1-2Q in AY 2026. Starting from the end of May and lasting approximately two and a half months, students will work in teams to verify the marketability of their own business ideas and aim to create a business plan that has a high probability of being realized in society. If you wish to demonstrate your entrepreneurial skills, if you already have a business idea and would like to verify its feasibility and marketability, please attend a briefing session to learn more about the program and application requirements. (b) Systemic Design
(An event of Science Tokyo SPRING (for Science and Engineering fields))
-Date and time: Saturday, February 7, 2026, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
-Venue: Room S4-202, Ookayama Campus
-Outline: Systemic design is a methodology that combines the theory of Systems Thinking with the practical methods of Design Thinking to view difficult and complex problems as systems, consider the related elements and interactions, and design solutions. It incorporates the perspectives of multiple stakeholders, analyzes the problems of the target system from a bird's-eye view moving back and forth between parts and the whole, and used to consider sustainable and useful solutions.
