LEGO club students complete model of Building C, home of university hospital
In anticipation of the integration between Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) and Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech),1 members of the Tokyo Tech LEGO Club completed a large LEGO model of Building C on Yushima Campus on August 24 and 25. The planning of the project began in August 2023 and was led by the university exchange promotion working group2 involving members from both merging institutions.
The completed work, which symbolizes the integration of two historic institutions to form Science Tokyo, is approximately 100 cm wide and 100 cm high, and is made of more than 20,000 LEGO parts. It vividly expresses the details of daily life at the university hospital in Building C, and even includes an emergency helicopter, surgical assist robots, and a rooftop garden.
Comments from former LEGO club vice-president Naoya Hatakeyama
As soon as we were approached about the creation of a large model of Building C on Yushima Campus, I was convinced that this would be one of the more symbolic projects surrounding the integration of TMDU and Tokyo Tech. I felt a great sense of accomplishment as the work began to take shape through repeated meetings and with the cooperation of all the club members.
I oversaw the exterior wall design of this piece, and each club member created a diorama for each section based on a particular theme. I hope people will take the time to appreciate this detailed and artistic work. I would like to express my thanks for being able to create this piece on the unique occasion of the integration between TMDU and Tokyo Tech.
