Student Survey 2026 open until July 7

June 18, 2026

Student Survey 2026, an inquiry conducted every other year to ensure that students have their say in making Science Tokyo a better place, is open to all students in the science and engineering fields until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7.

This survey aims to improve the Institute across key areas such as curricula, facilities, and on-campus services — anything highlighted by students. The survey, which began in 2005 at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), Science Tokyo’s predecessor, is organized mainly by voluntary student staff members. These volunteers create the survey from the students' perspective, collect and analyze data from across the Institute, hold meetings with relevant faculty and staff members regarding potential changes, and then summarize the results in a proposal to the Science Tokyo leadership team.

This is the first time the survey is being held as Science Tokyo, which was born through the integration of Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Tokyo Tech in October 2024. While still in a period of transformation, the Institute recently commenced operations as a University for International Research Excellence backed by the Japanese government. Naturally, Science Tokyo is experiencing rapid and significant changes in its learning and research environment, which is precisely why student input is so important.

The positive effects of the Student Survey are evident. Thanks to recent proposals, the Institute has, for example, made significant enhancements to the learning management system and authorized absence system for students, created spaces for self-study and group work on Tamachi Campus, and brought lunchtime food trucks to Science Tokyo students, staff, and faculty members. While the implementation of certain suggestions requires significant amounts of preparatory work, funding, and time, the Institute strives to give due consideration to all recommendations.

The Student Survey, led by students to shape Science Tokyo for students, is a unique initiative that opens important channels of communication in the community while playing a vital role in enhancing the Institute.

Those who have not shared their thoughts yet are encouraged to do so before the submission deadline.
